About Craig Rose Salem NY (West Hebron, NY Actually)

Craig Rose, Salem NY

My name is Craig Rose and I live in Salem NY. The house is in West Hebron NY however West Hebron doesn't have a ZIP code. The town next door - Salem, NY does have a ZIP code so we get to use there's and lie to everyone saying that we live in Salem when we really live in West Hebron.

Again, It's Me, Craig Rose Salem NY

Anyway... Our house sits on  a lovely plot of land with hills, trees, rocks, ground hogs, deer, perhaps bears, chipmunks, partridge (which is really a grouse) a couple of bald eagles, rainbow trout, frogs, turtles (red eared and snapping), snakes (garter, garden and milk), and ticks. Lots of ticks. And for some reason these ticks like... you guessed it - Craig Rose in Salem NY.

Hello! I’m Craig Rose in Salem, NY, a web developer at The Orvis Company.

I started my career with Chevron Corporation in San Ramon, California. After earning a Master of Arts degree in Industrial Design from San Francisco State. I ultimately transferred into Chevron's web design team and helped to create their extensive corporate Intranet.

I later moved to Maine where I worked as the Senior Digital Graphic Artist for Unum in Portland Maine. Also at Unum, I changed positions and became a Web Developer (Front End) using ASP.Net.

After Maine I moved to Salem NY (West Hebron), New York and now work at The Orvis Company First on their Content Team, then as a Web Developer and now as a Platform Engineer.

In my spare time I am working on my 160 year old house, or working somewhere on our 42 acres (with or without a horse) and in my shop, converted from a small old barn.

Salem, NY

From Salem's website:

The Town of Salem is located in Washington County, New York and is situated east of Saratoga Springs and southeast of Lake George on the Vermont border.

Salem was first settled in 1761 by Joshua Conkey and James Turner. As soldiers in the French and Indian War passed through the territory. In 1764 Alexander and James Turner acquired a patent which was soon divided up between the New Englanders from Pelham Mass. and a group of Scotch/Irish Presbyterians from Ballibay, Ireland.

The name of this place was disputed for many years. The New Englanders called it White Creek after the clear creek that ran through the village and the Scotch/Irish called it New Perth since it reminded them of home. In 1788 the New York State Legislature settled the dispute by calling it Salem, a name first used in 1777 for Fort Salem of Revolutionary War time.

West Hebron, NY

From Hebron's website:

The town of Hebron has changed little over the past 100 years.  Its picturesque farmland and heavily wooded terrain draws many people who want to live in the area and enjoy the simple, peaceful lifestyle that Hebron offers.  Many of Hebron’s grand old homes are still occupied by the same families that lived in them generations ago.  The area possesses the type of friendliness and stability that is so hard to find in today’s urban-oriented society.  The citizens of Hebron are involved in their community and have made strides to preserve their heritage in the 21st century.

Churches

Hebron has three active churches and many social organizations. Residents are proud of the Hebron Fire Company and the many activities they have.  The Hebron Preservation Society is an active, non-profit organization.

In 1864 Hebron was the leading potato producer in Washington County. The area’s gently rolling hills and valleys were filled with farmland much as they are today.  Presently, dairy farming leads the way in local agriculture, but many more niche farms have recently come to fruition.

Being that I am indeed Craig Rose and that I do indeed live in Salem, NY it's only fitting that I point out that the fauna listed above is not owned by me. The state of New York actually lays claim to any wild animal within state boundaries and as such puts for regulations (they're really good at those) that govern what an individual can and cannot do with those animals.

For instance (again Craig Rose Salem NY), a lovely creek flows through our property. I own land on both sides, but in order to fish it, I still need to purchase a fishing license.
